Privacy Policy

Last updated 8 October 2026.

Revise is a spaced-repetition study app. This page explains what it collects, why, who processes it, and how you can export or delete it. There are no ads, no ad trackers, and no sale of your data.

What we collect

  • Account: your username and, only if you add it, an email address for password reset.
  • Study content: subjects, topics, notes, flashcards, word lists, readings and exercise history you create. An uploaded Word, PDF or plain-text file is never saved to our database; only its extracted text becomes notes. A photo of your notes that you ask Revise to read is passed to the AI provider and then removed from Revise; only the text you choose to save becomes notes. When no AI is set up, a photo is read on your own device and never leaves it.
  • Spoken answers: when you choose Answer aloud, Revise receives the browser's transcript in the same answer field as typing. Revise does not receive or store the microphone audio.
  • Study signals: review dates, practice days and goal progress derived from your activity.
  • What you share: a subject you share by link, or add to a library, can be read by anyone with that link or by the library's members (by anyone, if its owner makes the library public): its name, topics, notes and flashcards, and your username. Your progress is never shared. Turning a link off or removing the subject from the library stops it being shared; copies other people already made stay theirs.
  • Push token: only when you enable reminders, and only to reach that device.

Who processes it

Revise does not share data with advertisers or data brokers. These providers process only what their feature needs:
  • Render hosts the app; Neon hosts its database.
  • DeepL translates text and Groq generates optional practice hints.
  • Google is used only if you choose Google sign-in or calendar sync.
  • Anthropic or OpenAI receives the specific notes and prompt needed when you choose AI generation, and the photos of notes you ask to have read, through your own key or Revise's limited shared allowance. If you add your own key for a different AI service, that service receives them instead.
  • Your browser's speech service processes microphone audio only after you press Answer aloud and allow microphone access. Availability, audio handling and recognition privacy depend on your browser and its provider.

Cookies and local storage

A session cookie keeps you signed in. Local storage remembers device preferences, account-scoped offline practice and unsynced results, note drafts and reading positions. Signing out disconnects the active offline account; clearing site data removes these local copies, including unsynced work. Neither is used for advertising or cross-site tracking. First-party product measurements record feature events and response times. A small sample of page visits records the slowest observed interaction duration and a fixed page name, without typed text, answers, element names or URL query strings.

Your controls

You can export a copy of your data or permanently delete your account at any time. Revise is not directed at children under 13. Meaningful policy changes will be reflected in the date above.

Pagey conversations

Saved conversations are private to your account. AI replies send recent messages and selected topic material to your configured provider. Conversations stay until you delete them or your account, and are included in your data export.
